WHAT IS CHRISTIANITY?
Christianity is all about character and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It’s not just a religion or a religious denomination. Christianity is not a man-made system, nor a denomination but it’s the faith and the person of Jesus Christ Himself.
WHO IS A CHRISTIAN?
A Christian is any man born again of the spirit of God fully transformed and translated into the image of the Lord Jesus Christ. It was at Antioch that the disciples of Jesus Christ were first called Christians. They never called themselves Christians but the people who saw them called them Christians because they were moving in the full doctrine of Jesus Christ and they walked in all his ways and preached in his name. Their faith was based upon the word of God (Jesus) and they did everything in that mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore the people in Antioch called them Christians because they identified themselves with Jesus and all their character and lifestyle portrayed Jesus.
And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch.
Therefore let nobody boast around saying that he/she is Christian, but let your light so much shine so that people may see your good works and glorify God (Matthew 5:15-16). Let your faith, character, and lifestyle portray Christ. Bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit, walk in the Spirit, put on the full armor of God, and walk in simplicity of life and you shall be called Christian because Christ is alive in you.
There are very many false Christians in our generation. False Christians are those people who have impersonated themselves with Christ. These believed and confessed Jesus Christ as Lord and savior but failed to bear the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Their character and lifestyle are not of Christ but of the world.
False Christians formed for themselves certain religious denominations and are hiding there. They fail to acknowledge the supremacy of the son of God and the authority of God’s word over them and set for themselves manmade theological dogmas and ideologies to follow. Their faith is based upon the ideas, customs, and traditions of the church denomination. Though they call themselves Christians but indeed they are not because they have not put on Christ and their works are evil and abominable before God.
All religious denominations are worth nothing before God. God did not call us to become Catholics neither Protestants, Muslims, Baptists, Presbyterians, Methodists, nor Pentecostals. God has called us to Himself that we may bear his very nature and develop his eternal attributes. He has called us to turn from darkness and enter his marvelous light that we may proclaim his good works in the land of the living.
God has not called us to be catholic Christians nor Pentecostal Christians but has called us to become genuine born-again Christians baptized and filled with the Holy Spirit walking in the perfect bright light of His Eternal Word.
It’s only a mistaken identity but you cannot be a Christian catholic. You can either be a catholic or a Christian. The two are completely different, i.e., Catholicism is headed by the pope and all teachings and doctrines are his ideologies but Jesus is the head of Christianity and all doctrines and teachings are His Word.
You cannot be a gay or LGBT Christian. You are either LGBT or Christians, but the two can’t be combined. You have got to deny the world of sin around you, deny your religious denomination, or cult group, confess your sins to God and accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior then you will become a Christian.
If you want to become a Christian, you must forsake your sins and be converted and without being born-again of the Spirit of God, you can never enter into the kingdom
HOW TO BECOME A BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIAN?
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.
A person must first recognize and acknowledge that he/she is a sinner and needs God’s forgiveness. The Bible says that all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Through one man Adam sin entered into the world and polluted everyone and condemned us unto death but Jesus Christ paid the ransom of sin with His own precious blood which He shed at the cross of Calvary.
We all deserved to die because of sin; for the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus (Romans 6:23). While we were still sinners, Jesus put on flesh and died on our behalf bearing the condemnation of sin in his own flesh so that by the grace of God we may be saved when we believe on Him (Romans 5:8)
We are saved by Grace through faith
“But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” Ephesians 2:4-9
Led by the Spirit of God
“For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” Romans 8:14
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth’’ John1:12-14.
The word of God helps us to discover our sins and weaknesses, it unveils our secret sins and all the filthy of our hearts for it is a discerner of thoughts and searches the intents of the heart (Hebrews4:12). Once the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ is preached, it has the power to transform the hearer into a believer. It has the power to bring a sinner to righteousness, it can change you from darkness to light.
There is a convicting power in the word of God leading to repentance. Therefore once the word of God convicts you towards repentance, please know that it’s the acceptable day and time for your salvation. Humble yourself before God, repent your sins by confessing them with your mouth before God, and turn away from them. After confessing your sins, welcome Jesus Christ into your life and start living according to the standard of God’s eternal Word of Truth.
The Parable of the Lost Sheep and Prodigal son
The Lost sheep, Luke 15:3-10
And he spake this parable unto them, saying, What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? And when he hath found it, he layeth it on his shoulders, rejoicing. And when he cometh home, he calleth together his friends and neighbours, saying unto them, Rejoice with me; for I have found my sheep which was lost. I say unto you, that likewise joy shall be in heaven over one sinner that repenteth, more than over ninety and nine just persons, which need no repentance. Either what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a candle, and sweep the house, and seek diligently till she find it? And when she hath found it, she calleth her friends and her neighbours together, saying, Rejoice with me; for I have found the piece which I had lost. Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.
The Prodigal son, Luke 15:11-32
And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard music and dancing. And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found.
Whenever one sinner turns to God, there is great joy and merry in heaven because a soul has been saved from death to life eternal. You might be that lost sheep or that prodigal son and God is waiting to receive you tonight. He is spreading his arms straight towards you; come yee into the rest of God.
“While it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation.” Hebrews 3:15
The following are the steps taken for one to become a born-again Christian;-
-
BELIEVE IN JESUS (ROMANS 10:9)
The first step to becoming a born-again Christian is believing the Word of God preached about Jesus Christ. Believe that Jesus is the only begotten son of the Living God, He was crucified and died for our sins, buried and after three days resurrected from the dead, ascended up in heaven, and will come again the second time to judge the living and the dead each according to their works.
John 3:16; states that whoever believes on the son of God shall not perish but have eternal life and John 14:6 says that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life and no one can enter into the kingdom of God but through Jesus Christ. God has given us His word to believe it but not to debate about it. Therefore whenever the word of God (good news) is preached unto you, you must believe it and believe on the Lord Jesus as your Lord and savior, welcome him into your heart, and begin a relationship (fellowship) with Him.
Eternal life is only found in Jesus Christ; if you want to be saved from your sins, accept Him today as your Lord and savior and He will wash away all your sins and you will be made a new creation as though you never sinned.
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:”
2. CONFESS YOUR FAITH IN THE LORD ( ROMANS 10:9-10)
The Bible says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. After you have heard the Word of God and believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, then you ought to confess your faith out. Confess it with your mouth that Jesus is the son of the Living God, Jesus is Lord, confess him loudly to the whole world around you to know that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. Open the doors and windows of your heart widely and allow Him to enter into your life, surrender everything to Him.
Confess all your sins to Him. Don’t leave any sins unconfessed for the bible says that whoever hides his sins shall not prosper (Proverbs 28:13). Through the crucifixion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God established a new covenant with mankind and sealed it with his own precious blood. In this new covenant (Hebrews8:12, Jeremiah 31:34, Isaiah 43:25) He says that He will forgive our sins and shall blot them away and remember them no more.
The precious blood of Jesus is all-sufficient to wash and cleanse us from all our faults (iniquities). It doesn’t matter how big, great or deep your sin is, the blood of Jesus will make you clean and white (Isaiah1:18) the moment you confess them before God with a sincere and contrite heart (Psalms 51:17). The Lord will take away that filthy garment full of guilty from you and you shall be dressed up with the new white garment of righteousness and your duty is to keep that garment free from stains and wrinkles (Zechariah3:3-5)
As you confess your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, you also ought to denounce the world and all its entanglements, you ought to denounce and destroy all the covenants you have ever made with the devil, confess and denounce them aloud with your own mouth for the bible says that life and death is under the power of the tongue and all spiritual covenants and blessings are under the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21)
You can confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior today by reciting these words below;
‘’Dear lord Jesus, I am before you today, I have known by the Holy Scriptures that you are the son of the Living God, you died for me on the cross of Calvary to wash away my sins. You were buried and after three days you resurrected from the dead. I acknowledge with all my heart and confess with my mouth that from today onwards, you are my Lord and Savior.
Forgive all my sins and all the secret sins hidden in my heart, I give you my heart, soul, spirit and body, I surrender everything to you, have your way in me Lord Jesus. I denounce all the demonic and satanic covenants I have ever made with the devil. I empty myself from the world. I welcome the Holy Spirit to reign in my life and to lead me into the path of righteousness and holiness. I thank you Jesus for saving me today. Send your Angels to watch over me and fight for me because I am weak. Fill me with your strength and teach me how to pray and how to please you’’. AMEN.
3.a. BE BAPTISED (JOHN3:3-5)
The Lord stated it clearly that except a man be born again of the water and the Holy Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. After a person has believed on the Lord Jesus and has confessed Him as Lord and savior, he/she then has to be baptized with water and the Holy Spirit as a seal of his/her salvation.
The baptism of water and spirit is a MUST for every believer (Matthew3:15). It is very essential to do water baptism immediately after a person has believed on the LORD (Acts2:38, Acts 19:1, Acts8:37-39). Water baptism is a physical act of public proclamation of the faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It prophetically proclaims the Lord’s death and burial when we are dipped into the water and it proclaims his resurrection when we raise from the water (Colossians2:12). Water baptism symbolizes that we have died to and buried our old sinful nature and it proclaims the new hope of resurrection in righteousness through the finished works of the Lord Jesus Christ at the cross of Calvary.
After baptism, we become new creations formed after Christ, the old sinful self is done away with through his death and sanctification by his precious blood; therefore we no longer live but Christ lives in us and we are part of his body which is the church (2 Corinthians5:17, Galatians2:20)
3.b. Baptism Of The Holy Spirit
After a person has confessed on the Lord Jesus Christ, he/she should be prayed for by any spirit-filled man or woman of God by the laying on of hands so that the Holy Spirit can come upon them. Without the witness of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer, there can grow no fruit because it’s the Holy Spirit that bears fruits on the inside of a person and transforms their character into the image of Christ.
The Lord said that except a person be born of the Holy Spirit, he/she cannot enter into the kingdom of God. The Holy Spirit in the Old Testament came upon only prophets, priests, and kings whom God had chosen to minister before him, but afterwards, God made a promise through prophet Joel 2:28 that He would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh. Once the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you become God’s child. It’s the Holy Spirit that will enable you to walk in righteousness with God and he will teach you all things concerning the will of God.
The apostles and disciples of Jesus received the baptism of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost in Acts2:1 according to the promise of God. The anointing of the Holy Spirit gave them the strength and power and courage to preach and do the will of God without fear (2Timothy1:7, Romans8:15). The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a must for every believer immediately they believe on the Lord Jesus Christ or after water baptism. (Acts1:5, Acts2:38, Matthew 3:11, Acts 19:2, Acts 10:44).
If you accepted Jesus and received the water baptism yet you have not yet received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, this is the time now to call upon the name of the Lord. Everyone must receive the new birth experience of the baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Below are some of the purposes of the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer;-
-
The Holy Spirit is the life of God in the believer
-
He is the anointing and power of God within a believer and upon him for service
-
He teaches us how to pray
-
He reveals the will of God to us
-
He teaches us the revelation of God’s word
-
He bears the fruit in us
-
He is a seal assurance of eternity for all the saints
-
He helps us to walk in the Spirit
-
He teaches us how to praise and worship God
-
He reveals to us the truth
-
He gives us power over all devils
-
He performs miracles in our lives
-
He transforms us into the image of Jesus Christ
I perceive that many believers have not yet received the baptism of the Holy Spirit and I think it’s because some have not yet completely given up the world, surrendered to the Lord, and yielded to the Holy Spirit to take over. It doesn’t matter whether you are a Christian or not, if you don’t receive the Holy Spirit, you won’t see the kingdom of God. If you want to receive the Holy Spirit, you must follow the precedents set by the Lord in the scriptures below (Acts2:38, Luke 9:23-26).
You must live a fully surrendered life to God.
NOW YOU ARE A NEW CREATION
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
The Bible states it clearly that if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation; the old sinful self is done away with. The person of Christ must be dead to sin and to the world. Sin should no longer have dominion over you because the seed of God (Holy Spirit) dwells in you. There must be a total change and complete conversion in your life. You need to put away all the previous works of the flesh, and the lusts of the eyes and completely separate yourself from the world.
-
SEPARATE YOURSELF FROM THE WORLD
“Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:”
God told Abram to separate himself from his country, from his people, and to leave his father’s house and begin walking into the new land which God had appointed for him. The faith of Abram in God prophetically spoke about our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Like God commanded Abram to get out of his father’s house and country, so God has called us to get out of the world, evil ways, evil company, and separate ourselves completely from the things of the world. Our lives have to completely change in all aspects. We can no longer do the things we used to do that are worthless and counted as sin before God (2Corinthians 6:14-17, Matthew 10:34-36, Luke 12:51-53).
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?” 2Corinthians 6:14
Apostle Paul admonished the believers not to be equally yoked with unbelievers. We can no longer walk in darkness after coming to Jesus, we must separate ourselves from darkness, evil, sin, and from all worldly filthy works like smoking, clubbing and use of intoxications, etc. we cannot walk in agreement with the people of the world but must be separated. We need to be dead to the things of the world in order to be alive in Christ Jesus.
2. PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD (EPHESIANS 6:10-18)
“Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians 6:11
While you were still in the world, you used to walk in the darkness and your garment was filthy and dirty dotted with sin. You were vulnerable, helpless, and doomed, walking in the flesh and in unbelief, opposing the wisdom and knowledge, and will of God. You were not ashamed to walk naked, smoke, drink alcohol, visit witches, cursing because you were leading a blind life full of darkness. But now that you have believed on the Lord, you must separate yourself from the world and put off all the filthy garments and walk in righteousness.
You must put on the full armor of the Lord. It’s the garment of righteousness unto holiness. With this new garment, you please God and you reflect God in all your works. You must die to yourself, will, desires, lusts, and live for Christ’s sake in all things.
When you came to Jesus, you became an enemy to the world and the devil will wage war against you. Therefore; to be able to fight this spiritual battle and overcome the world, you need to be dressed properly in the full armor of God like a soldier ready for battle. As Christian soldiers, we must put on all spiritual weapons in order to overcome the fiery darts of the enemy. We don’t wrestle against flesh and blood but against powers and principalities in the heavenly places.
Our weapons are not carnal but mighty through God destroying strongholds and every high thing that exalts itself against the word of God. (2 Corinthians 10:4-5)
-
Helmet of salvation
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” Ephesians 6:17
As a Christian, you must portray Christ in all your daily walk. All people must see your good works and glorify God in heaven.
Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
You are the salt and light of the world, a city built upon the hill cannot be hidden. You are a witness of Jesus Christ through your kindness and love and good works (Matthew5:14). With the helmet of salvation upon your head, you will be able to guard yourself against the corruption of sin. This helmet is the crown of God’s glory upon your head that defends you from demonic attacks.
2. Breastplate of righteousness
“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;” Ephesians 6:14
A Christian is supposed to walk in the righteousness and purity of the spirit all the days of his/her life. Many times we sin in different ways; using our eyes we lust, we think evil in our minds, speak unworthily, and walk in evil ways, but we must continuously daily confess and repent our sins to the Lord asking Him for forgiveness so that His precious blood by his grace and mercy may cleanse us and keep our garments pure and clean and white.
The breastplate of righteousness is the holy and righteous works which we must daily walk in. we are not supposed to sin intentionally or deliberately but must take our bodies and subject it to the obedience of God’s word. Without holiness, no man shall see God (Hebrews 12:14).
3. Shield of Faith
“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.” Ephesians 6:16
Faith comes by hearing and hearing of the Word of God (Romans 10:17). There are very many voices in the world and most of them are discouraging, corrupt, worrisome and faith-consuming, but we can only find faith by reading and hearing the Word of God. Be careful of what you listen to and what you watch, you might be destroyed by them.
Without faith we cannot please God (Hebrews 11:6). Faith is the substance of the things hoped for the evidence of things not yet seen. We become born-again by faith and without faith, no one can be saved. When we pray in faith, God listens to our prayers and releases our requests. We hope for eternal life, the resurrection of the dead, and the second coming of Christ by faith through the Word of God. (Hebrews 11:1, Mark 11:22-24, Matthew 18:18).
‘’A born-again Christian having faith in Christ Jesus cannot be defeated’’.
Faith is illustrated as a shield that defends us from all the fiery darts of the enemy. For with faith we speak in tongues of the Spirit, we cast out demons, heal the sick, raise the dead, and preach the gospel. We can open and shut heaven, remove mountains, command seasons and days, bind and loose the barren wombs by the faith in the Lord Jesus Christ (Mark 11:22-24).
“For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.” Romans 1:17
Faith is the basic and fundamental foundation of godliness and Christianity. As Christians, we don’t walk by sight but by faith in the son of God and we need to do all things in faith towards God. (2 Corinthians 5:7).
4. Sword of the Spirit
“And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:” Ephesians 6:17
The sword of the spirit is the word of God. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
‘’Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalms 119:105
A Christian must read the word of God daily in order to know it, understand it and be able to walk in it. The word of God which is the bible was written for our guidance and it’s the guide to godliness and to eternity. When you read the Bible, you must believe what it says and be obedient to do it. It is for reproof, correction, exaltation, edification, and encouragement. All answers to all spiritual questions are found in the bible. The Word of God contains God’s laws, commandments, statutes, and principles of godliness. The Word makes the simple wise and destroys the wisdom of the prudent, and it proves foolishness to the wisdom of the world.
You must read the bible in order to find out what God wants you to do and what the purpose of your calling is. The Bible says that many people perish because of lack of wisdom and knowledge. When you know and understand the word of God, you cannot be deceived (Hosea 4:6, John 8:32).
You need to read the word of God in order to know the plan of God for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). The word of God equips you with power and strength, it reveals your worth in God and it delivers you from demonic strongholds and from the deception of the devil. As Christians, we ought to read the word of God day and night and meditate upon it all the time in order to grow spiritually.
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8.
5. Belt of Truth
“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;” Ephesians 6:14
The Bible says that the devil is a liar and a father of lairs. While we walked in the world, we many times lied and deceived, but the moment we come to Jesus, we start walking in truth and speak the truth at all times irrespective of how bitter it might be. We ought to be honest and faithful in all things we do. All our speeches must glorify God and must align with the Word of God. The Bible says that let God be true and man be a liar meaning that only God’s word is truth and all other speeches and voices are lies. Therefore we must put God’s word first in all our daily walk so that we may abide in the truth.
The truth of God’s Word is found in the Holy Bible and anything contrary to the bible is a lie and is from the evil one. Before doing anything, we must judge it first through the light of God’s word of whether it’s truthful and worth doing. The absolute truth of God’s Word is the person of Jesus Christ. Therefore we must follow and obey all the commandments and teachings of the Lord Jesus Christ without preference of any, for all God’s Word is Truth.
“Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” John 17:17
6. Pray Always
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;” Ephesians 6:18
Prayer is communication / communion /fellowship with God. A Christian must develop a personal relationship with God through the power of the Holy Spirit and this can be done through constant daily prayers. A prayerless Christian is a defeated believer without the power of the Holy Spirit. We must pray without ceasing in order to overcome spiritual attacks and temptations (Luke 18:1, 1Thesonanians 5:17). Ask the Holy Spirit to teach you and help you how to pray. The power and strength of a Christian is in prayer (Zachariah 12:10)
Pray for God’s guidance, wisdom, strength, power, anointing, grace, mercy, forgiveness, healing, deliverance, etc., everything we get in salvation is through prayer made in faith to God (Mark11:24, Matthew21:22). The bible says that an effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much (James5:16). When we pray we have confidence that God hears our prayers and will surely answer them all in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:13).
All prayers should be made to God by the help of the Holy Spirit through the mighty name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Before doing anything, we ought to pray; pray before and after eating, pray before sleeping and when you wake up, pray before making any journey, and pray about all things for God to uphold you and to be with you. Pray before reading the bible.
7. Put on the shoes of good news
“And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;” Ephesians 6:15
“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!” Isaiah 52:7
(Romans 10:14-15, Mark 16:15-18)
The moment you believe on the Lord, you become an ambassador and a witness of the Lord to the world. Therefore you need to share the good news about Jesus to the unbelieving world so that they may also believe and be saved. We are the light of the world and we must shine with the light of God’s word and testify to those who are still walking in darkness that Jesus can save them.
Every Christian is a witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ and therefore we must never feel timid nor ashamed to share this glorious gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God unto salvation. The Lord says that whoever shall be ashamed of Him before the world, even him will be ashamed of them before God and the holy Angels (Luke 9:26, Mark 8:38). We did not receive the spirit of fear and of timid, therefore; we must freely share the word of God boldly to the people around us.
By sharing the Word of God, we also build ourselves in the ways and knowledge of God’s Word. The word of God is the light to our footsteps and therefore all our steps must be ordered by the Lord. We must not walk in the ways of darkness and we must avoid journeys that lead to sin. Every step we take must be glorifying God.
BEAR THE FRUIT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law’’ Galatians 5:22-23
A Christian should not walk in the darkness working to satisfy the desires of the flesh, but we must walk in the spirit. While we were in the world, we walked in flesh and sin reigned over us but now we have put on Christ and have died to the things of the world and have crucified the flesh. Sin has no dominion over us. We must amend our ways and walk in righteousness before God and avoid all fleshy works.
A Christian is a soldier of Christ and lives to wage a war against the enemy and the battlefield is within his mind. The flesh fights against the spirit and vice versa. Once the flesh overcomes your spirits then you are doomed. You need to humble yourself before God, walk in the spirit, and bind the flesh under the will of the spirit. Apostle Paul said that to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace (Romans 8:5-6)
A Christian must die to self and avoid all the works of the flesh and we must change our ways completely and there should be a total difference between a born-again Christian and a non-believer. You must avoid these following evils according to Galatians 5:19-21;- ‘’Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God’’.
A Christian must not go clubbing, drink alcohol/bears, smoking, plaiting the hair, applying wigs and weaves on the head, applying lipstick, face painting, making tattoos on their body, watch worldly music and movies or become an artist. A Christian must at all times dress modestly covering all their sensitive private body parts; a woman must not put on pants, leggings, shorts, min-skirts, jeans, armless, one-arm dresses, kundi shows, tight skirts and dresses, see-through dresses, excessive jewelry, plastic surgery for beautification; and plastic artificial nails, eyelashes, hips, breasts, teeth, etc., all these are an abomination to the Lord.
In the like manner also Christian men need to dress modestly and decently and should not have stylish haircuts, tattoos, weaving, and braiding hair, balancing and sagging trousers, armless, tight shirts and trousers, shirts printed with obscene or evil graphics and words, etc. There should be a difference between a Christian and a non-Christian (Leviticus 10:10, Jeremiah 10:2, Ezekiel 44:23)
‘’We don’t have such things like Christian celebrities, Christian DJ’s, Christian dancers, Christian comedians, Christian artists, Christian concerts, shows and competitions like the world does. Our only purpose and duty is to serve God and worship Him in truth and spirit dwelling in righteousness and holiness’’.
Once you receive the Holy Spirit, you must completely transform into a new creation fashioned after Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is the seed of God in you and enables you to bear fruits and that fruit must be self-manifesting in the life of a maturing believer. (Galatians 5:22).
A Christian is a child of God led and controlled by the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:14). A Christian must walk in love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, faith, meekness, temperance, kindness, holiness, and righteousness, etc. the fruits of the holy spirit are the absolute quality character of a genuine born-again Christian. We must strive to obtain a new character and lifestyle pleasing to God all the days of our lives. In order to maintain the fruit of the spirit alive in us, we must die to sin, deny ourselves, pick up the cross and follow the LORD daily (Romans 8:13-16).
“And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” Luke 9:23
A Christian must abide by all that the word of God says and must be led by the Holy Spirit in all that we do. The Holy Spirit cannot lead you to sin nor can He contradict with the word of God. Therefore if there be any spirit that directs you contrary to the Bible, that kind of spirit is of the devil. The world cannot teach us anything spiritual and we must not copy and brings the world into the church.
“Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.” Jeremiah10:2
We must be completely converted to Christ, dead to the world, following a new pattern of life which is after godliness; seeking to please God in all our works both in private and public. We should offer our bodies as a living sacrifice before God for him to use us and for the Holy Spirit to dwell in us.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Romans 12:1
You no longer own yourself but you were bought with a precious price through the death of our Lord Jesus Christ.
“Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16
THE FOOD OF THE SPIRIT
“But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” Matthew 4:4,
“And he humbled thee, and suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with manna, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live.” Deuteronomy 8:3
While we walked in the world, we used to feed our flesh with real food and with other evil works. In the same way, once we come to Jesus, we need to feed our spirit (Inner man) in order to keep him alive. To be carnally minded is death but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. (Romans 8:5-6). As Christians, we ought to mind about spiritual things that benefit our inner man. We are admonished to set our eyes on things above in heaven (Colossians 3:2) and we should not walk by sight (flesh) but by the faith (Spirit).
The Bible says that as a man thinketh in his heart so is he (Proverbs 23:7), therefore we need to be careful and control what we think about, what we see, hear, touch, smell, taste and where we step. We need to be guided by the Holy Spirit in all things. The food that we feed on helps us to grow spiritually; therefore, if it’s good food we shall grow well, but if it’s not good food, then we shall have a stunted growth.
Your spiritual man is alive and must be fed daily with the following spiritual menu;-
-
The Word of God
“This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.” Joshua 1:8.
(Matthew4:4, Joshua 1:8, John 6:63, Hebrews 4:12, 2Timothy 3:16-17)
A real born-again Christian must read the Word of God daily in order to mature in the knowledge of God. The Word of God equips the believer with enough knowledge, skill, strength, power, and authority to overcome the world and to defeat the devil. (John5:39)
2. Prayer
“Pray without ceasing.” 1 Thessalonians 5:17
A real born-again Christian should be prayerful and should pray all the time before doing anything. A prayerless Christian is a defeated believer. The Lord argued us to pray that we may not fall into temptation.
And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Luke 18:1
“Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Matthew 26:41
We must pray in the morning, afternoon and evening and at the night for spiritual strength and spiritual growth. We should keep in constant fellowship with God so that we can develop spiritual sensitivity, discernment and maturity.
3. Fasting
“David, therefore, besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.” 2 Samuel 12:16
“And he was three days without sight, and neither did eat nor drink.” Acts 9:9
“And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungered.” Matthew 4:2
“And I set my face unto the Lord God, to seek by prayer and supplications, with fasting, and sackcloth, and ashes:” Daniel 9:3
It is very essential for a Christian to fast and dedicate him/herself to God. Fasting helps us to kill the flesh and silence all the other strange voices and vices of the world.
-
Fasting helps us to draw close to God and it empowers our spiritual man (inner man)
-
It helps us to unlock all the spiritual blessings for us before God when we pray in the spirit.
-
It helps us to release and to activate the anointing upon our lives and to open our spiritual eyes and ears in order to hear from God and to be sensitive to discern the leading of the Holy Spirit.
-
It is a requirement for all Christians to fast so that they can be equipped with God’s power before He can use us.
-
When we kill the flesh, we dwell in the spirit and therefore we can easily have fellowship and communion with God in the spirit.
4. Praise and Worship
‘’Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights. Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts. Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light. Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens. Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created’’. Psalms 148:1-5
All humanity was created to worship God. It is the duty of every born-again child of God to praise Him for what He has done and for what He can do and worship Him for who He is. We must worship God honoring and glorifying Him in all our ways; in the way we talk, dress, hear, watch, and walk, in everything all the time. We must live to glorify God through our character and behavior.
We worship God using our own Words of adoration and we sing melodious songs of praise to Him with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength.
We worship God all the time everywhere but it’s also important to set dedicated time when we present ourselves before Him in total and complete submission and surrenderance; closing our eyes and raising our hands up, waving before him, bowing and kneeling down / laying prostrate to the ground, humbling completely before the Lord God Almighty.
5. Fellowship
Again I say unto you, that if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Matthew 18:19-20
“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!
A Christian should keep in daily fellowship with God and with the body of Christ. You need to choose the right church to fellowship with as led by the Holy Spirit. That church must be rooted on the truth of God’s word, and spirit-filled and with sound doctrine. You need to have a servant of God whom you feed from spiritually the bread of life (Word of God).
“And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:31
WHAT GOD EXPECTS YOU TO DO
“Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.” 2 Corinthians 5:20
When you came to salvation, you became an ambassador of Jesus Christ and you must live to reflect and glorify and witness Him in all your ways.
“Whosoever, therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.” Mark 8:38
Every Christian should witness to the world about the salvation life that is in the Lord Jesus Christ. Don’t feel timid and don’t fear talking to someone about Jesus. A great reward awaits for the soul winners. Don’t be ashamed of sharing the good news (gospel) to your friends, family, colleagues, classmates, etc.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16
The Lord Jesus has already sent you to witness Him to the world and you received the power of the Holy Spirit on the day that you believed. Now the Lord expects you to preach the gospel, heal the sick, cast out devils, be holy and pray for the lost souls.
‘’And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give’’ Mathew 10:7-8
‘’And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover’’ Mark 16:15-18.
ETERNAL HOPE
(John 14:1-4, Acts 1:11, 2 Peter 3:10-14, Revelations 22:7, Revelations 22:12-14, Matthew 25:32)
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
We did not come to Jesus because of any other greater reason other than obtaining Eternal life. Some people may say that they came to Jesus to get healing, and be delivered from demonic chains; that’s alright, but after healing what next? The general and main reason as to why you came to Jesus is to obtain Eternal Life.
Don’t be deceived that you came to salvation to get rich in material things, be debt free, be well in this earthly life; no sir that gospel is incomplete. Our eternal hope is one that someday we shall be joined with our Lord Jesus Christ and shall reign with Him forever and evermore.
‘’For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord’’. 1Thesolanians 4:16-17
That’s why we endure in love, we endure to keep the faith daily, keeping this living hope that he that promised is faithful to fulfill (John 17:3, 1 John 5:12, Romans 10:11, Isaiah 45:17, John 3:16).
Therefore nothing can separate us from the love of God neither death, sickness, tribulation, imprisonment, pain, poverty, nor hunger, nothing.
‘’What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth. Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, for thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
HEAVEN AND HELL
I would like the church of God to know that earthly life is a transition. We are all strangers and pilgrims on the earth and we’re here only for a few days. Real life begins the moment we separate from the body (die). Man is a spirit and has a soul and lives in a body. We were all created in the Image of God as spirits (God is a Spirit); we were sent on earth to live in the body and were given a soul. Every man someday has to depart from the face of the world and make his way to everlastingness.
There are only two places of everlasting habitation for all men; its either Hell or Heaven. Heaven is real and Hell is so real. There is continuous unceasing pain, suffering, and agony, in hell where men are burnt with hellfire as a punishment for the sins which they committed while still on earth. Hell is a prison cell for all sinners of all levels, and from hell; the judgment of God shall be passed upon them and shall be cast into the lake of fire where Lucifer and all his angels shall be cast and they shall forever be tormented.
Paradise is a place of rest where all the souls of the righteous lodge after being separated from the flesh (death). It’s a beautiful, glorious place of rest and rejoicing; no pain, no suffering, no crying, no death, and no sin. Everything beautiful is in the paradise of the Lord. After paradise them all the saints shall be rewarded each crowns according to their good works while still on earth and shall receive the kingdom of God. They shall dwell in the presence of God in everlastingness.
The sole reason as to why Jesus died on the cross is to save souls from hell to paradise, from darkness to light, and from death to life eternal. We must make a choice today while we are still alive. Man is only given one chance to decide where we want to spend our eternity. Jesus is the only way, truth, and life eternal. All who reject the gift of salvation shall enter into hell directly and all who have received the gift of God’s salvation have eternal life in them and shall be received up in Heaven.
“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live:” Deuteronomy 30:19
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
A biblical witness of Hell and Paradise
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: 20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, 21 And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22 And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24 And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. 25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented. 26 And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. 27 Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house: 28 For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment. 29 Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30 And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31 And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.
Dear beloved brother and sister, make a decision today; choose where you want to spend eternity after death. You must die someday, but choose today where you want to spend eternity. I counsel you to choose life. Accept Jesus Christ today as your personal Lord and savior and walk in his ways and you will be assured of eternal life.
